Bernie created First Responder Counseling, LLC in Peoria, AZ in late 2020. She has a BA in Psychology from Duke University (2000), a MS in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph's University (2002), and a MA in Counseling from Webster University (2010). From 2005-2020, she worked with Public Safety Psychology Group in Albuquerque, NM providing counseling and training to law enforcement, fire fighters, emergency medicine providers, 9-1-1/dispatchers, and members of the military. Her goal is to continue to provide counseling services to first responders, their significant others, and anyone working through a history of trauma. Bernie is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and has provided supervision for Master's level interns and associate level counselors. Bernie is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and she is a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC).

The length of time it takes to see results from counseling sessions with First Responder Counseling, LLC varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy. Bernie will work with each client to create a thorough treatment plan after meeting and discussing the client's needs and expectations so there are clear goals and objectives.
First Responder Counseling, LLC provides counseling services for adults (ages 21+) who are in or are veterans of first responder or military careers. She also works with the significant others of first responders or military members. She provides individual treatment or couple's sessions.
No, FRC is not accepting insurance at this time. If a person qualifies for the Craig Tiger Act (CTA) s/he could be approved for up to 36 sessions free of charge. If you have any questions about CTA please contact Bernie and she will discuss it with you. FRC accepts private pay clients.
FRC takes confidentiality very seriously and will not release any information to anyone without your consent. There are a few exceptions to break confidentiality, but those will be reviewed during the intake process so you will be informed about those parameters.
